Sapporo Designated a ‘Special Zone’ for Financial and Asset Management Business

On June 4, 2024, the Japanese government officially designated Sapporo City in Hokkaido as a ‘Special Zone for Financial and Asset Management’.

As Japan’s leading region for renewable energy, Hokkaido offers significant potential for international investment into green initiatives such as offshore wind power and hydrogen
As part of this special deregulatory zone, various regulations within the green industry and finance sectors will be relaxed, facilitating foreign asset management companies’ entry into Japan. With this, Sapporo (and the wider Hokkaido prefecture) will become a hub for renewable energy within Japan. Additionally, it will serve as a financial center for Asia and beyond, attracting funds, human resources, and knowledge about the green industry from around the world.
