Fostering New Partnerships Over Three Days
From October 27, 2025, Sapporo hosted the “Sapporo × ASEAN Co-Creation Days,” welcoming senior officials from the embassies of Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The three-day intensive program aimed to explore new possibilities for cooperation and deepen mutual understanding across economy, environment, and technology.
Program Highlights
Day 1: Economic Exchange and Vision
- Courtesy Call on the Deputy Mayor: Shared visions for strengthening economic and human exchange.
- Briefing: Introduced Sapporo’s business environment and attraction efforts, including a session with Michael Tedder (SapWorks G.K. / New to Sapporo this year).
- Welcome Reception: Active networking among ASEAN diplomats, Sapporo City/Hokkaido officials, and local businesses/consulates.
Day 2: Innovative Site Visits
- Smart Agriculture: Toured an urban hydroponic farm.
- Moerenuma Park: Visited the Art Park (designed by Isamu Noguchi) which embodies solutions to environmental issues.
- Sapporo Station Snow Melting System: Inspected the system utilizing snow for cooling.
- Streetcar Tour: Networked with overseas startups based in Sapporo.
Day 3: Future Technology and Innovation
- Hokkaido University Visit: Held discussions with three university-launched startups.
The “Co-Creation Days” successfully merged diplomacy and friendship, leading to a realization of the deep ties between Japanese businesses and ASEAN nations. The event fostered active networking at every stage, providing an excellent opportunity to make a favorable impression on the ASEAN nations.
Sapporo City will further strengthen collaboration with ASEAN nations and various other countries/industries, expanding its role as a city that promotes sustainable economic growth and innovation.
